Motorists may experience overnight slowing on Highway 50 this week as construction crews work to make improvements to the Watt Avenue interchange.
Both westbound and eastbound Highway 50 will experience lane closures during the week:
Westbound: Lane closures are scheduled to occur today and Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Eastbound: Lane closures are scheduled to occur Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
When all main highway lanes are closed, motorists will be detoured on auxiliary lanes along Highway 50. Motorists will always have access to at least one through lane on Highway 50 during lane closures.
Only one direction will be affected at a time.
The interchange project will reduce congestion, install transit facilities and improve safety for bicyclists and pedestrians.
Lanes must be closed to construct support beams called falsework.
The falsework serves as support for the new overcrossing until construction is done and the structure can support its own weight, according to a Sacramento County Department of Transportation press release.
