Elisa Magallanes, and her boyfriend Luis Puente are all smiles as they celebrate their graduation with family and friends from West Sacramento Early College Prep Charter at UC Davis on Sunday, June 9, 2013. West Sacramento Early College Prep Ñ a charter school founded as a partnership among the University of California, Davis, School of Education; Sacramento City College; and Washington Unified School District Ñ graduated 32 high school seniors. All of SundayÕs graduates have post-graduation plans. Many have been admitted to four-year colleges and universities including UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz and UCLA; others will attend community college, join the military, or plan to attend other training programs or trade schools. This is the schoolÕs first graduating class, with many graduates having entered as seventh graders when the school opened. Admission to West Sac Prep is open and tuition-free to students in grades six through 12. The school makes it a priority to admit students who do not speak English as their first language, will be the first in their families to go to college, come from low-income families, or have traditionally struggled in reading, writing or mathematics.
