Re "About time for crackdown" (Letters, June 10): The spate of letters showing the conflict between fast and slow bicyclists on the American River Parkway indicates success -- many people want to bicycle on it. The county needs to attract, not discourage users.
It's time to expand the parkway. Either build a second, adjacent path, to separate upstream from downstream traffic, like a freeway, or create a new path on the other side of the river. Or both.
Reducing conflicts requires good design, whereas ticketing riders creates ill will and perpetuates the conflicts without encouraging more healthful bicycle riding. Let's make our county a better place to live and build on our successes.
