Berryessa area should be a national conservation area

Re "Give national status to Berryessa's lands" (Editorials, June 8): I applaud the editorial board for taking a stand to protect our great outdoors in Northern California by endorsing federal legislation to create the Berryessa-Snow Mountain National Conservation Area.

The Berryessa-Snow Mountain region is truly a spectacular place to visit. As a great outdoors lover and longtime hiker in the region, I, too, am concerned with the management of this national treasure. I support this federal designation knowing it will both protect this oasis of environmental diversity while stimulating local economic growth in our own backyard.

June is Great Outdoors Month, a perfect time to consider making this natural treasure a legacy for our future generations. I encourage others to ask Congress and the administration to take quick action to permanently protect the Berryessa-Snow Mountain region.
