Echoes of Nazi Germany in NSA's domestic spying

Re "Charges readied against contractor" (Page A1, June 12): Big government is tracking our phone calls, what we text and what Internet sites we visit. It is working at taking away our guns. When my parents and I were lucky enough to escape from Germany in late 1937, that is exactly what the German government was doing -- to keep us "safe and prosperous."

Dictatorships, whether one all-powerful man or an all-powerful "democratically" elected group, are still dictatorships, interested only in their own well being and agenda. The German people believed the lies their government spouted, until their privacy and civil rights had been slowly eroded for the people's own good. The American public does not seem to see or care that this is happening here.

History has proven again and again: Those who do not remember history will see it repeated again and again.
