Re "Roseville lays down law on police union" (Editorials, May 31): Roseville is one of the most financially secure cities in Northern California, with virtually no deficit and a large reserve. We are also one of the safest communities in Northern California to raise a family. Then why did our city leaders jeopardize public safety in Roseville by imposing mandatory pay cuts on our city's police force?
Despite receiving emails from hundreds of Roseville citizens and hearing from dozens of residents who attended the City Council meeting all in support of our police, the council voted 4-0 to impose a contract. Roseville officers are now the lowest paid police officers in our entire region. No doubt, we will lose skilled officers to other cities, making it more difficult to hire experienced officers to replace them. I am appalled by the council's lack of judgment; their priorities are in the wrong place.
