A woman was found dead Thursday afternoon in a pickup truck that crashed on a winding rural road in southern El Dorado County.
A passer-by reported the crash after coming upon the vehicle on Sand Ridge Road, about four miles east of Highway 49, shortly before 3:30 p.m.
Officer Quinn Cuthbertson of the California Highway Patrol said there were no witnesses, and it is not known whether the victim, an older woman, died of injuries suffered in the crash or natural causes.
The woman was the only person in the maroon Dodge Ram pickup. Cuthbertson said the driver was on a curve of the winding road when the pickup struck an embankment. The truck sustained significant front-end damage.
Cuthbertson said efforts to revive the woman were unsuccessful. Her name has not been released pending notification of family.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
