A retired Boeing 727 made its last flight for FedEx on Friday morning to Mather Field as it transitions into a new career as a stationary training aircraft for first responders.

The cargo jet landed on a flight from Texas to Mather. The delivery company selected Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District to receive the plane.

The donated aircraft will be used at the California Fire and Rescue Training Authority's Regional Training Center under development on Zinfandel Drive. Fire and police agencies from the Sacramento region and beyond will be able to train using the aircraft.

The aircraft will be moved around October to the training site.
