The explanation that Beth Brown, wife of Fresno Fire Chief Rob Brown, provided to news media for her husband's suspected domestic violence last week doesn't match what she told a 911 dispatcher on the night of the ordeal.
In a recording of Beth Brown's 911 call to a sheriff's dispatcher from late Wednesday, she said she was hit in the face by her husband and that her two eldest sons feared for her safety. She wanted sheriff's deputies at their home to control her husband, even indicating he had threatened to hurt himself.
In statements Friday, however, Beth Brown said her husband did not strike her and had just pushed her out of the way during a dispute he was having with one of their sons. Sheriff's deputies, she said, overreacted.
