Re "Boy charged in couple's slaying" (Page A1, June 19): I understand that the juvenile suspect in this case at one point in his life was considered a hero. He was most likely a great baby, too, but I find that of equal insignificance.
Can we hear something of value related to such a horrific crime? The fact is, it doesn't matter where you live, your socioeconomic status or ethnicity, your age or education. You can be violently attacked, and it can happen in your home. From all news accounts, the elderly victims did nothing to deserve their horrific fate and it is truly a profound loss for their family and friends.
We as a society, need to remove our blinders, weave protective measures into our lives, and push news agencies to promote cautionary stories.
