Re "Will U.S. arms be enough?" (Page A1, June 15): Senators Robert Mendez and John McCain are spot on. Insufficient or weak action by the United States will result in continued violence in Syria and regional instability causing strain on critical strategic, geopolitical interests.
It also will create fertile ground for extremist groups, such as Hezbollah, to destroy Syria and pose an even greater threat to the U.S. and its allies. Arming the Free Syrian Army to tip the balance and help bring an end to President Bashar Assad's tyranny is a step in the right direction.
America is seen as a great defender of human rights in the world and leaving the Free Syria Army soldiers without ammunition to defend themselves will only result in increased war crimes against humanity, several more million displaced refugees and sends a message that genocide and human rights violations are to be tolerated as long as they do not occur in the United States.
