The founder of Eppie's Great Race on Tuesday handed the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors a check for $31,815, bringing his total contributions to the county to more than $1 million.
Eppie Johnson has promoted the race for 40 years, raising money for the county's therapeutic recreation services. The services benefit people with mental and physical disabilities.
The 40th annual Great Race is scheduled July 20 on the American River Parkway. Participants compete as teams or individuals in a triathlon that consists of running, biking and paddling. Proceeds from race entry fees are donated to the county.
