Granite Bay High School has hired Skip Albano, a former Grizzlies assistant, as the interim head football coach replacing Ernie Cooper.
Cooper, who led the Grizzlies to the CIF State Division I Bowl Championship last December, resigned earlier this month.
"It is never easy replacing a legend, but Skip Albano is a perfect fit for Granite Bay High School," said Tim Healy, the school's athletic director, in a news release. "He coached with Ernie and he is intimately familiar with the commitment and keys to our program's success."
For Albano, 64, the hiring marks a return to the Granite Bay campus where he was a part of Cooper's staff in 2011, 2008 and from 2000 to 2003. Albano also has worked as an assistant at Woodcreek, Oakmont and Sierra College.
In addition to his previous experience at Granite Bay, Albano has coached football throughout Europe, including this spring as head coach of the Thun Tigers of the Swiss American Football League.
"It is a real thrill to return to Granite Bay and it is exciting to have the chance to build on the success we have become accustomed to here in the community," said Albano in the release. "I can assure people we will be prepared, we will play hard and we will continue Ernie's tradition of developing great teams and even better individuals."
