More than 27,000 passengers are expected daily to fly in and out of Sacramento International Airport in June, July and August, three of the busiest travel months of the year, airport officials reported today.
Officials suggested checking the airport's website before you leave home to familiarize yourself with the airport's parking lots and their prices. Arriving drivers also can tune in to 530 am on the car radio as they approach the airport for updates on parking availability. Overhead signs on airport property also will update drivers about parking availability.
The airport website is at www.smf.aero
The economy lot, where parking prices are $10 per 24-hour period, has filled on occasion, usually for a few hours on Fridays and Saturdays, officials said. The airport also has a $12 surface lot, closer in. "It's a cost-effective alternative that is closer to the terminals and requires a shorter shuttle ride," airport spokeswoman Laurie Slothower said. "We're trying to get the word out about that." The entrance to that lot is just before the multi-level garage entrance on the road toward Terminal A. It and the economy lot are served by shuttle buses to Terminal A and Terminal B.
People coming to the airport to pick up arriving fliers are asked to wait in their vehicles in the free waiting lot, also called the cell phone lot. Signs at the airport direct drivers to that lot. Officials suggest having the person you are picking up call you on your cell when he or she is approaching the terminal pick-up curb.
Airport officials remind flyers that no fireworks are allowed on aircraft, either as carry-on or in checked luggage.
