Re "Gay-lesbian equality gains an important step" (Forum, June 30): The significant U.S. Supreme Court decision is laudable for all concerned in California. With this milestone passed I am hoping that the next hurdle for the court will be to re-allow polygamy that was outlawed by the federal government in 1862.
According to a 2006 story in the Chicago Tribune, "Utah's attorney general, pro-polygamy activists and other experts estimate there are 40,000 people living in polygamous families" across the Western U.S. It is currently practiced in Utah now and it should be available to all states.
