Caltrans crews work to repair heat-related damage on Highway 50

Two lanes of eastbound Highway 50 between Third and 14th streets in Sacramento remain closed this afternoon as state Department of Transportation crews work to repair sections of buckled concrete.

"The inclement weather that we've had has taken a toll on the roads," said Rochelle Jenkins, a Caltrans spokeswoman.

She said last week's rains followed by the spike in temperatures caused the concrete sections to buckle.

The No. 5 and 6 lanes, the two slow lanes, were closed about 9:30 a.m. so crews could undertake emergency repairs. Jenkins said the No. 5 lane is expected to reopen about 5 p.m., but the No. 6 lane will remain closed through the night.

Jenkins urged motorists to be patient and reduce speeds in the area.
