The California Department of Insurance is reducing rates for its California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program for the second year in a row.

With annual premiums starting at $226, the program helps income-eligible good drivers obtain affordable auto insurance.

CLCA rates vary by county. The current annual premium in Sacramento County is $276, with $238 in Placer and El Dorado counties and $250 in Yolo county.

Drivers may qualify if they have a good driving record, are at least 19 years old, have been continuously licensed to drive for three years, own a vehicle valued at $20,000 or less and meet the income eligibility requirements.
