A man was rescued by a California Highway Patrol helicopter Saturday afternoon after crashing his bicycle in a remote area near Sugar Pine Point.
The bicyclist's companion called 911 after the accident, which occurred about 2 p.m., said Daniel Berlant, spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The injured bicyclist was airlifted from a wilderness area near Sugar Pine Point, which encompasses 2,000 acres of forest on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, to an area nearby, where there was a crew of medics.
An ambulance transported the bicyclist to an area hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
