Kudos to: The Rev. Michael F. Kiernan and Monsignor Edward F. Kavanagh

Accomplishment: Roman Catholic priests celebrating ordination milestones

Details: Monsignor Kavanagh was born in Kilkenny County, Ireland. Ordained there 65 years ago, Kavanagh came to Sacramento's St. Rose Catholic Church in 1948, at age 23, and has been there ever since. As pastor emeritus, he is still very active at St. Rose.

The Rev. Kiernan, a native of Longford, Ireland, studied for the priesthood at St. John's Seminary in Waterford, Ireland. He was ordained for the priesthood in 1973. His 40th anniversary of ordination was celebrated recently at Our Lady of Assumption Parish in Carmichael, where is pastor.

Kudos to: Sheridan 4-H Club of Placer County

Accomplishment: Created wooden benches

Details: Benches and information boards were created for the Placer County Fair to give fair visitors a place to relax and also to learn about the history of the 4-H program and the animals in the barns.

Kudos to: Andria Fletcher and Kathy Lewis

Accomplishment: Honored as two of 34 Americans to receive the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition Community Leadership Award

Details: The women, leaders of Sacramento's Center for Collaborative Solutions' Healthy Behaviors Initiative, were honored for promoting physical activity and healthy eating in afterschool programs and in making a difference in the lives of children.
