Highway 50 from Sly Park Road to Meyers has reopened with one-way controlled traffic from Alder Creek to Sand Flat, after being closed throughout the afternoon due a fire.
The California Department of Transportation announced the reopening shortly before 7 p.m.
The fire, in a rural area between White Hall and Kyburz, had burned 50 acre as of about 6 p.m., according to the U.S. Forest Service, Air tankers and helicopters were assisting ground crews in battling the blaze, which was reported about 12: 40 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a blown vehicle tire started the fire
Eastbound traffic was held at Sly Park Road in Pollock Pines. Westbound motorists were diverted at Meyers, with Sacramento-bound travelers advised to take Highway 89 to Highway 88 or Highway 89 to Interstate 80.
