High near 100 expected to be hottest of week for Sacramento area

Today is expected to be the hottest day of the week with temperatures near 100 degrees in the Sacramento region.

High pressure continues to build over Northern California, prompting the National Weather Service to predict temperatures of about five degrees above normal for July 9.

Forecasters say that it will take until Wednesday evening before a decent Delta breeze starts up again. The breeze is expected to produce the two coolest days of the week: Thursday and Friday.

Temperatures ramp back up again on the weekend.

The detailed, 7-day forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 98. South wind 5 to 8 mph.

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 61. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 96. Southwest wind around 6 mph.

Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59. South southwest wind 9 to 11 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 90. South southwest wind around 8 mph.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 91.

Friday night: Clear, with a low around 60.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 94.

Saturday night: Clear, with a low around 61.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 95.

Sunday night: Clear, with a low around 63.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 95.
