Cats glance: Cats get jumped early in loss to Sky Sox

Highlight: After Sonny Gray was scratched from his start – the Contra Costa Times reported the A's are set to promote him – emergency starter Chris Resop gave up eight runs and nine hits in 2 1/3 innings as the River Cats lost 10-3 to the host Colorado Springs Sky Sox.

Wheeler goes deep: Tim Wheeler (El Camino High School, Sacramento State) hit a three-run homer in the Sky Sox's five-run first inning.

Pop at the top: The River Cats' Nos. 1 through 4 hitters went 8 for 17 with three RBIs, while the Nos. 5 through 9 hitters went 1 for 18.

Weeks keeps it going: Sacramento's Jemile Weeks went 3 for 5, making him 7 for 10 in the series and raising his batting average to .279.

Moore delivers: Scott Moore went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Sacramento.

On deck: The River Cats return home Thursday to begin a four-game series against Fresno.

Today: River Cats LHP Andrew Werner (7-11, 5.93 ERA) vs. Sky Sox RHP Chris Volstad (5-1, 4.76), 11:35 a.m., Security Service Field.
