Downtown Sacramento reached 97 degrees Wednesday, after a surprising 101 degrees was registered Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

This week was supposed to be devoid of 100-degree days, according to an earlier weather service forecast. But that was not in the cards as Sacramento recorded its 10th 100-degree day of the year.

Looking ahead, the National Weather Service promises a slight break in the hot weather.

The Delta breeze is expected to increase, leading to highs in the mid-to-low 90s in Sacramento today and Friday.
