7-Eleven is giving away a cold beverage today because it is July 11 (7-11-13) and it's the day the convenience market chain celebrates the founding of the company.
Every year participating 7-Eleven convenience stores celebrate the founding of the company by giving out small Slurpees on July 11. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. store clerks will be dispensing 12-ounce Slurpees.
The retailer began its convenience store run in the summer of 1927 when a Southland Ice Company employee began selling bread, milk and eggs on an ice dock in a Dallas suburb. For decades, 7-Eleven has celebrated the chain's birth on July 11 -- and since 2002 has been handing out free Slurpees.
