A group of California pear farmers says it has become the first in-state commodity board to sponsor Sacramento's "America's Farm-to-Fork Capital" program.

The Sacramento-based California Pear Advisory Board will join previously named businesses, grocers, restaurants and nonprofits as a participating sponsor of the program, which was formally launched in October by Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.

Farm-to-fork touts the Sacramento region's food production, consumption and sustainability.

"California pear farmers are the perfect partners for this program, because pears are strongly connected to the Sacramento area," said Chris Zanobini, president of the pear board. "Virtually all commercially grown pears are produced within 100 miles of Sacramento."
