Cats glance: Pill's homer in eighth helps sink River Cats

Highlight: Brett Pill hit a one-out, two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Fresno Grizzlies defeated the River Cats 6-4 on Saturday night before a near-record crowd at Raley Field.

Sellout: The announced crowd of 15,703 was the second largest in franchise history. The largest announced crowd was 15,808 on July 3, 2008.   

Filling in: Former River Cats manager and current roving hitting instructor Todd Steverson filled in for current manager Steve Scarsone, who is one of the U.S. coaches for today's Futures Game in New York.

Roster update: The A's designated shortstop Adam Rosales for assignment, who passed through waivers and was outrighted to the Cats.

Today: River Cats RHP Dan Straily (3-1, 1.46 ERA) vs. Fresno RHP Mitch Lively (3-4, 6.38), 1:05 p.m., Raley Field.
