Re "Did Prop. 13 help produce the pension mess?" (Viewpoints, July 12): Why am I not surprised that Peter Schrag tries to hold Republicans accountable for a problem Democrats own? "Don't blame us! It's Republicans' fault for not stopping us from being bought by public sector unions!" So typical.
To liberals, everyone's a victim. No one bears responsibility for their actions; it's always someone else's fault. What a seductive sentiment. Add that to constant invitations to envy and resent "the rich" (defined as anyone who makes more than you do), and promise that if only we taxed and spent enough, government would solve all of life's problems and we'll be Europe in another few years. How different things might be if people held liberalism accountable for its results instead of its intentions.
