For the last seven seasons, poor ownership left the Kings twisting in the wind, with losing season after losing season, and the threat of relocation played with the emotions of the dwindling number of fans.

Those winds have calmed under the new ownership group headed by Vivek Ranadive. The future appears bright, and the recent past seems like nothing more than a bad dream.

The fans who turned their backs on owners who turned their backs on their fans are returning, evident by record season-ticket sales in the days following the closing of the purchase of the team.

Ranadive is off to a nice start.

He has hired new people in most of the key positions – team president, general manager, head coach, assistant coaches – and acquired a handful of new players through the draft, trades and free agency.

The changes should extend beyond basketball operations, too, with repairs expected throughout an arena long neglected under the Maloofs' ownership.

Because of the changes, many fans are looking forward to the 2013-14 season and the start of a new era.

With so much change in so little time, there is still time – and a need – for one more change.

Perhaps a new logo for the team?

The current logo has been used since 1994, when the color and scheme of the team's uniform was changed.

Like the Kings' arena, the logo is old and dated. A new era in Sacramento deserves a new image.

What to watch

Baseball, Home Run Derby, 5 p.m., ESPN: A's second-year slugger Yoenis Cespedes is in his first home run contest.
