Re "How to keep telemarketers at bay" (Business, July 14): The solution is simple. When eating dinner or when you don't want to be disturbed by phone calls, turn the ringer off and take advantage of caller ID to screen your calls, or let the call go the voice mail.
Another way to deal with is, when you answer the phone and a telemarketer is on the other end, simply say, "Let me get my dad, mom, owner of the house, etc." then put the phone down and walk away.
I have employed these tactics over the years and hardly get any call from telemarketers. Don't make this any harder than it has to be.
