The Capitals suffered their fourth straight loss Monday night, falling to the Orange County Breakers 21-13 in Irvine.

Sacramento (3-4) was tied 11-11 at intermission, but the Capitals' Olga Govortsova and Ryan Sweeting lost 5-1 in women's singles and men's singles, respectively.

Govortsova, who also lost 5-1 in women's doubles, replaced 17-year-old Taylor Townsend (strained abdominal muscle).

• Maria Sharapova withdrew from next week's Bank of the West Classic at Stanford because of a left hip injury suffered 2 1/2 weeks ago during Wimbledon.

Heading the Bank of the West field are fourth-ranked Agnieszka Radwanska and No. 7 Marion Bartoli, the Wimbledon champion.

The second-ranked Shara- pova lost to Michelle Larcher de Brito, a former Capital, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round at Wimbledon. Sharapova tumbled several times during the match.

Sharapova announced on her website Saturday that she had hired Jimmy Connors as her new coach, one day after she parted ways with Thomas Hogstedt.
