The Downtown Sacramento Foundation announced Wednesday that Andy Paul's business concept for Andy's Candy Apothecary won the top prize, valued at $135,000, in its Calling All Dreamers contest.
Paul said he hopes to open his doors sometime before the holiday gift giving season begins. He's figuring out now how to wind down his 9-to-5 job as a trainer and organizational coach with the Youth Development Network.
"I'm going to slowly phase out of here," said Paul, who's been with the nonprofit for eight years. "Everyone knows this is a full-time gig. I'm going to be working every hour outside my current work that I can put into it."
Paul is already in the process of choosing the space he'll occupy at the 800 J lofts building, where he'll receive free rent for up to a year.
