Re "Florida boycott to be urged" (Capitol & California, July 18): Florida is not the only state with a "stand your ground" law. Many states call them "no retreat" or "duty to retreat" laws. I found 23 states with laws allowing for self-defense without a need to retreat. I only found in Idaho that for a self-defense with deadly force, there is a duty to retreat if it can be done "safely".
We can be angry because we do not like the way the George Zimmerman case turned out, but it is up to the people of Florida to change the law, not us.
We have a representative government; this gives us, the people, the right to petition for change. Don't like the law? Write your state representatives and get it changed.
