Re "Case not about guns or race" (Letters, July 18): The letter writer got it right. This not about guns or race. It is about two individuals acting very stupid with George Zimmerman going first. The jury found that he did nothing illegal and acted in self defense. The whole incident could have been avoided had Zimmerman acted more responsibly.
However the prosecution went for too much, probably because of the national attention. I do not believe the jury wanted to send Zimmerman to prison for 10 to 30 years for his actions. If they had an option for something with a one- or two-year sentence, I believe they would have convicted him. Too bad there isn't a law for being stupid in public.
