A horse died following a race Thursday afternoon at the California State Fair.

The horse, identified by fair officials as a 2-year-old thoroughbred named Reno Lucky Lady, collapsed after the fourth race.

A state veterinarian is always on the grounds and did the initial evaluation, officials said. A necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, and a report is expected to be prepared within 48 hours.

The horse was owned by Nevada Equine LLC, according to fair officials.
