Re "Case not about guns or race" (Letters, July 18): We will never know what really happened between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman, but I wonder why more people aren't talking about gun control in relation to this case.
Zimmerman should never have been out there on "neighborhood watch" carrying a handgun. He was not defending his home; he was actively looking for trouble. The only reason for a handgun is to kill a person. It was a recipe for disaster.
If handguns were illegal in this country, Martin (and thousands of others) would still be alive. It's as simple as that.
