This week's cartoon caption contest gave readers the opportunity to comment on California's bulging prison population that Gov. Jerry Brown has attempted to address, or not, in various ways.
Dozens of readers put words in the governor's mouth or responded to judges' exhortations to cut the population, while others wanted to take a page out of Nevada's playbook on overcrowded facilities.
Here are the three that made the final cut. Even if your submission didn't make it to the finals, you have a chance to determine the winner. Vote for your favorite cartoon caption by noon Friday.
The winner, which will be based on survey results and judging by The Bee's editorial board and cartoonist Steve Greenberg, will be revealed Sunday in California Forum. The winner will receive a signed color print of Greenberg's cartoon with the winning caption.
