Sacramento is expected to continue to cool today, prior to a chance overnight showers with the capability to ruin a weekend car wash.
The high temperatures the past three days went this way: 100 on Friday, 101 on Saturday and 96 on Sunday. Look for a deep dip today with only 89 degrees forecast for the Sacramento region.
Meanwhile, according to the National Weather Service, monsoonal moisture will spread into the area from the south, delivering a chance of thunderstorms in the Sierra Nevada and perhaps some sprinkles in the valley tonight and Tuesday morning.
The detailed, 7-day forecast for the Sacramento region:
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. South southeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming west southwest in the morning.
Tonight: A slight chance of sprinkles after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Southwest wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
Tuesday: A slight chance of sprinkles before 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 91. Southwest wind around 9 mph.
Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 63. South wind around 11 mph.
Wednesday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 96. South southwest wind around 9 mph.
Wednesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63.
Thursday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97.
Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 63.
Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 99.
Friday night: Clear, with a low around 63.
Saturday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 98.
