Highlight: Andrew Werner allowed one run over seven innings, and the River Cats had eight consecutive batters reach base in a five-run eighth inning as they downed the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 10-3 on Tuesday at Raley Field.

Hitting streak: River Cats second baseman Hiro Nakajima extended his hitting streak to a team-high 14 games with a single in the second inning.

Gray/Green return: Right-hander Sonny Gray rejoined the River Cats on Tuesday after the A's optioned him Friday. Second baseman Grant Green was optioned to the River Cats on Tuesday. He was 0 for 15 with six strikeouts.

Quite a surprise: Jim Hereth of the Army National Guard returned home after a year's deployment in Afghanistan, and he surprised 12-year-old daughter Summer and 10-year-old son Devin when he caught the ceremonial first pitch from them.

Today: River Cats RHP Sonny Gray (8-5, 2.81 ERA) vs. Colorado Springs Sky Sox RHP Chris Volstad (5-2, 4.76), 7:05 p.m., Raley Field.
