Even frozen green beans are good, cooked right

Re "Pick your green beans" (What's cooking, July 24): I'm 85 years old and retired since 2003. Since my wife had done most of the cooking for 50-plus yearsl, I decided about five years ago that it was my turn, which we both enjoy.

Green beans are one of my favorites and I liked the "how to prepare" suggestion. But six months ago, I tried a bag of Safeway's frozen green beans, sliced in bite-size pieces. It took several weeks to learn their suggested cooking method, but once I learned to follow it to the letter they are easier and faster to prepare than fresh beans, and both of us think the flavor and color are better than fresh. In addition we don't have to waste fresh beans that have been leftover too long in the refrigerator.
