Re "Don't link CHP salaries to pay of big city cops" (Editorials, July 24): I wish to take exception to your editorial regarding CHP parity with big city departments and your opinion that working in a big city is different than working on California's freeways.
The CHP has lost more officers -- 227 -- than any of the big city departments. Countless others have been seriously injured and their lives destroyed protecting the citizens of California. Clearly, The Bee's editorial board does not appreciate the sacrifices made by the men and women of such a proud organization.
It should also be pointed out that CHP officers patrol those big cities as well, and are called upon to work with the big city officers on a daily basis, recently in Oakland and Stockton.
