Asking price of Sacramento-area small businesses declines

The median asking price of small- and medium-size businesses for sale in the Sacramento area during this year's second quarter was $209,000, according to San Francisco-based

That was down from $225,000 in this year's first quarter and $220,000 in last year's second quarter.

Second-quarter 2013 calculations were based on 166 Sacramento-area businesses listed at

The Sacramento statistics are based on listing data, not on actual completed business sales.

Listed businesses in the area had median revenue of 382,824, up from $380,500 in the first quarter but down from $400,000 in the year-ago period.

Nationally, BizBuySell said 1,827 transactions closed in the second quarter of this year, up significantly from 1,129 in the year-ago period but down slightly from 1,897 in this year's first quarter.

The 61.8 percent increase nationwide was the largest year-over-year gain since small business sales bottomed out in mid-2008.
