Asking price of Sacramento-area small businesses declines

The median asking price of small- and medium-size businesses for sale in the Sacramento area during this year's second quarter was $209,000, according to San Francisco-based BizBuySell.com.

That was down from $225,000 in this year's first quarter and $220,000 in last year's second quarter.

Second-quarter 2013 calculations were based on 166 Sacramento-area businesses listed at BizBuySell.com.

The Sacramento statistics are based on listing data, not on actual completed business sales.

Listed businesses in the area had median revenue of 382,824, up from $380,500 in the first quarter but down from $400,000 in the year-ago period.

Nationally, BizBuySell said 1,827 transactions closed in the second quarter of this year, up significantly from 1,129 in the year-ago period but down slightly from 1,897 in this year's first quarter.

The 61.8 percent increase nationwide was the largest year-over-year gain since small business sales bottomed out in mid-2008.
