Re "Mental health event showed problems" (Letters, July 23): I simply cannot remain silent while someone disses an effort to help change our mental health system. What are we to do? Nothing? Not try? We must try to change our mental health system for the better; we must have a dialogue.
As a person with bipolar disorder and with family members with mental illness, I participated in the event to be with others wanting to be catalysts for positive change. The event was not fluff. Mother Teresa said, "I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples."
This event alone may not change the world, but it has created "many ripples." If even one person was inspired to do great things, it was a success. -- Sheila LaPolla, Citrus Heights
