If being in last place and 10 games behind the division-leading Los Angeles Dodgers wasn't painful enough, Giants fans were dealt another blow Tuesday in what continues to be a dreadful season.

Brian Wilson, one of the most colorful and beloved Giants players in recent years, signed a contract to pitch for San Francisco's rivals from the south state.

Wilson, who had Tommy John surgery in April 2012, will begin his comeback in the minors before joining the Dodgers. He pitched just 55 innings in 2011 and just two in 2012 because of injuries.

Wilson struck out the Rangers' Nelson Cruz in Arlington, Texas, for the final out of the 2010 World Series. The image of Wilson facing center field, crossing his arms and pointing toward the sky before being mobbed by his teammates will be etched in the memories of Giants fans forever.

But what fans will remember most about Wilson was his colorful personality and trademark beard that fostered the 2010 rally cry of "Fear the Beard!"

Now Wilson changes that jet-black beard to a Dodger Blue beard, and it will be curious to see how Giants fans react when he returns to AT&T Park with the Dodgers in late September.

Imagine Wilson striking out Buster Posey for the final out to clinch the National League West title for the Dodgers?

Talk about painful.

Wilson thanked Giants fans on Twitter after news of his signing broke: "Thank you to the fans in San Francisco. It was an honor to pitch in front of you all those seasons. … Even though I'll be wearing a different color your impact in my life will never be forgotten."

But will Giants fans cheer or jeer the beard when Wilson returns to San Francisco?
