The Placer County Sheriff's Office has received a $100,000 state grant to stem drinking by minors and prevent alcohol sales to intoxicated adults.

The grant from the California Department of Beverage Control will target establishments that sell alcohol to minors or obviously drunken adults.

Minors working with police will check whether stores are selling alcohol to people younger than 21.

Police departments in Auburn, Lincoln and Rocklin will work with the Sheriff's Department in the effort to halt sales to minors.

The grant also will be used to increase awareness among teachers and parents of alcohol-related crimes involving minors.
