Rocklin patriots

What: Rocklin Patriot Day, hosted by the city's Public Safety Volunteers, allows the public to get to know members of the U.S. armed forces and community police and fire department personnel. There will be demonstrations by K9, SWAT and motorcycle teams. Attendees can enjoy live music, vendor booths, food exhibits and a children's area.

Where: William Jessup University, 333 Sunset Blvd., Rocklin.

When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost: Free.



Annual festa

What: The Italian Cultural Society of Sacramento's Festa Italiana will feature dancers, authentic Italian cuisine and a children's piazza. Proceeds from the event go to Italian Cultural Society programs, including language classes and grants to area schools for Italian language and heritage courses.

Where: Croatian Park, 3730 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento.

When: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Cost: Admission is $12. Children 15 and younger are free.



Scenic barbecue

What: More than 100 cooks will participate in the Ribs on the River event along the Garden Highway. Spectators are invited to bring a lawn chair. Attendees will be treated to ribs and live music featuring Greg Scudder and the Beer 30, Kerri Carr and Brodie Stewart.

Where: Rio Ramazza Marina RV and Event Park, 10000 Garden Highway, Sacramento (between Riego and Elverta roads).

When: Gates open at 11 a.m., live music begins at 12:30 p.m.

Cost: $10.

Movie on the green

What: "How to Train Your Dragon" is the next free movie offering from Sacramento City Councilman Steve Cohn and Pops in the Park's "Screen on the Green" series. The movie will be shown at the South Natomas Community Park. Free popcorn will be provided by the International Academy of Design and Technology.

Where: 2901 Truxel Road, Sacramento.

When: About 8:15 p.m.

Cost: Free.



Run for Kaleo

What: The Sacramento Sheriff's K9 Association is hosting a Kaleo's 5K run and 1-mile walk to raise funds for the medical care of retired police dogs. The annual event began in 2009 to raise money for the care of Kaleo, a sheriff's K9 who had to retire because of a cancerous tumor on one of his rear paws. Funds covered the cost of surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy for Kaleo.

Where: Sacramento County sheriff's training academy, 1000 Riverwalk Way, Carmichael.

When: Registration begins at 7 a.m.; race begins at 8 a.m.

Cost: $25 for 5K run, $20 for 1-mile walk, children $10.
