Kathleen Weis is the new CEO of the American Red Cross Capital Region in Sacramento.

Weis has served as interim CEO since March this year and had been chief operating officer in the regional office since 2010.

"The capital region has a long and proud history of supporting those impacted by disaster, both in our local communities, across the nation and around the world," Weis said. "I look forward to continuing in that tradition of excellence, representing the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross and continuing to build a region which sets the standard for delivery of Red Cross services."

As CEO, Weis will oversee Red Cross services in a region comprising 24 counties and nearly 4.5 million residents. The regional office includes 40 staff members and more than 3,500 volunteers.

Weis succeeds Dawn Angelo, who left the capital region to accept the CEO position with an American Red Cross office in Seattle.
