Re "State needs more water, not just improved sharing" (Viewpoints, Aug. 5): I am in total agreement with Mayor Kevin Johnson. California needs more water. Much of California could be classified as desert if it were not for the Sierra snow pack. This snow pack is becoming more and more questionable due to climate change.
Demand for this water keep climbing to supply people, businesses, farms, and the fish and wildlife. With a growing population, demand for water will continue to climb. Where will this come from?
A few years ago, during a good snow season, I remember reading about dams dumping water to make room for a large, late run off. My thought at the time was that it really would be nice if California had additional water storage available to store this water for use during dry years.
