Students at a number of local schools manage to do very well on state tests -- even during an off-year.

Last year, almost 50 schools in the region saw 80 percent or more of their students score proficient on the state's English STAR tests.

As in the past, the best-performing schools tended to be located in areas without much poverty. Districts in Folsom, Rocklin, Rescue, Davis and Granite Bay accounted for roughly half of the best-performing schools.

Even with their high scores, most of these schools, like the rest of the region, saw test results decline over the last year.

This map shows the schools in the region where at least 80 percent of students scored proficient or better on English STAR tests.
