Re "A diocese's darkest day" (Page A1, Aug 11): Front page news of a priest being sent to prison facing 8 years is sensational news is worthy of tabloids, but somewhat irresponsible of The Bee. News travels fast and he is now assured complete protection by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, as should be.
The diocese acted quickly and the violation of trust and actions are not excusable. Rev. Uriel Ojeda may still be a good person who failed to control his impulses. We as a society have to ask why this happens so frequently for men and young children.
Spending more on mental health maybe the answer instead of throwing more money into a prison system that changes nothing. There has to be a reason why impulses cannot be controlled in a fully functioning adult.
