Sacramento-area gasoline prices fell another 5 cents over the past week.
The average retail price of gas in the Sacramento area is $3.73 a gallon, according to today's weekly report by national price tracker GasBuddy., which surveys 720 stations in the area.
Area prices are now 26.7 cents lower than one year ago but 9.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago.
Nationally, the average price of gas also fell a nickel over the past week to $3.58 a gallon - 9.1 cents below a year ago and down 1.2 cents from last month.
"Prices finally have dropped under their year-ago values, just in time for those last-minute vacations before school starts, said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy. "The rest of the summer will likely see prices flirting with where they stand today.
"But more significant relief will arrive around mid-September, when prices nationally could be 10 to 25 cents per gallon lower than where they are today."
